Well, more on that in a moment. In early February, I posted that I was walking each day and to make it more enjoyable I would imagine myself walking across the country. I’m walking for overall better health. While I do enjoy getting out each day, the added incentive to now see where I will end up on a map is making it more fun.
February continued the warmer than usual weather that we experienced in January. There were a couple of bone chilling windy days but nothing that thwarted me from getting outside. A couple of those days I was able to walk with a wonderful friend of mine of over 40 years. The weather was particularly nice on those days that he had off from work. Walking with a good friend makes getting outside all that more enjoyable.
Beyond that, this winter has been unusually warm and my monthly utility costs nicely reflect that. Nothing bad with that.
Speaking of saving on expenses, I continue to avoid ice cream in the house. I may have had a spoonful or two while sharing a dessert with Mrs. P2F in the past two months, but I’ve been really good (for me) at walking past the frozen dessert aisle. Although I may have curbed one bad habit…ice cream, I’m afraid I may be replacing it with another sweet. I’ll have to focus more on that in March. In any case, the savings from ice cream will go towards a charity at the end of the year. Adding to our January stash, we now have $100 to contribute to a charity of our choice in lieu of ice cream spending.
Where did I end up?
So how many miles did I walk in February? At total on 146.65. Not bad. That’s almost 4 miles more than the previous month and with 2 less days in the month. It’s a smidge over 5 miles a day. I hope to be able to increase, ever so slightly, the daily averages going forward, but we’ll see.
Where does that place me on the map? Remember, in January I traveled from Provincetown, MA to Narragansett RI. Starting the beginning of February in Narragansett, I’ve walked to just outside New York City in Rye New York. A place called Playland Park.

Playland Park has a long history going back to the early 1900’s. Toward the late 1920’s the Westchester County Park Association purchased two then existing amusement parks to create a local government sponsored amusement park. The park is still around today over 90 years later providing fun and excitement to residents and non-residents alike. You can read more about the park and its history by clicking here.
288 Miles and 4 States
There it is. Over the two months, I’ve logged 288 miles of walking. Figuratively speaking I trekked through Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut and am now in New York. Four states. We’ll see where I end up in March. So far this month, my daily average is a little less than February. Hoping to either pick up the pace, spend a little more time, or a combination of both by the end of the month to bring it up. If I don’t…no big deal.
